Are you proficient?
Ever wonder how many hours are required to truly be proficient after adding an instrument rating, multiengine rating, seaplane rating or tail wheel endorsement to your pilot certificate?
Well, the airlines treat newly rated crew members as a “high minimums crew member” if the crew member has less than 100 hours in the model. The high minimums crew member is limited to lower crosswinds, higher visibilities and ceilings, and longer runway lengths until they reach 100 hours experience.
GA pilots should understand the difference between legal and proficient by learning from the big boys. Start expanding your personal minimums upon reaching the 100 hour milestone in make and model and fly safe✈️
