Have you ever requested “the option” when approaching the runway?

“The option” is an automatic clearance for any approach termination such as full stop, touch and go, low approach, or stop and go. When given a clearance for “the option” you may do any of the terminations cited above without advising tower. You may also go around when given “the option”.

A clearance for “the option” does not allow full stop/taxi backs unless specified during the clearance. The beauty of “the option” is you have the luxury of terminating an approach any way you care to. Next time request “the option” and be your own boss!
