“That sounds expensive" -- It happened to me, could it happen to you?

Spoiler alert: This was not an engine failure related accident!  Another war story in the books that fortifies the need to select CAPS in lieu of gliding to a road or empty field after engine failure. An experienced pilot doing a normal landing on a challenging but doable runway WITH power found the surface to be unforgiving to even the slightest of piloting mistakes. Now consider the same field with NO power and the extreme stress of a real emergency and you can imagine a similar or worse outcome.
