Low or Slow= Checkride is over!

“Get low or slow on one engine and the checkride is over”

This is one of several admonitions (warnings) examiners brief multiengine applicants on prior to the flight portion of the Practical Test.

Understanding the critical and likely irrecoverable nature of being low or slow on final with one engine inoperative is imperative to qualify for this rating. Back in the day, all MEIs would instruct what was called “drag demo” to demonstrate poor single engine performance - now we use “Vmc Demo” on initial and add-on exams.

Be aware of airspeed (stay above Vyse) and altitude (stay at or slightly above red/white) while on final and live to see another day.
