What's the best way to lean your airplane?
Lean of peak (LOP) or rich of peak (ROP)? Which kind of pilot are you?
There are some things we just don’t discuss in polite conversation. You know, religion, politics, ROP vs LOP. But let’s say the topic of leaning comes up and you need an educated retort to win the argument.
In this scenario, we all know you can’t please everyone choosing one or the other, so use your knowledge of the benefits of each. Consider using the higher airspeed obtained from ROP to power into a headwind OR enjoy the lower fuel burn of LOP when tailwinds are present. Leaning this way will offer a compromise and deliver the passengers and cargo in the fastest and most economical way possible.
Maybe there IS a way to please all of the people all of the time. Well, maybe not, we are discussing leaning after all...happy flying!
